It’s been a positive start to Ange Postecoglou’s tenure at Tottenham Hotspur and their squad market value has slightly increased by €7.2 million to €754.8m in our latest update. Postecoglou enjoyed a dream start to his Tottenham career after moving from Celtic in the summer with the Australian boss collecting 26 points from his first ten games to take the North London club top of the table.

The English Championship doesn’t receive the attention of the Premier League but it’s a brilliant environment for youngsters to develop and gain experience ahead of moves to the top-flight. Gareth Bale, John Stones, James Maddison, Aaron Ramsey and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain are amongst the biggest names to earn moves to the English Premier League after impressing in the Championship and there’s a plethora of talented youngsters aiming to emulate those stars. A new year is upon us as we wave goodbye to an eventful 2023 in the world of football. Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Al Nassr sparked an exodus of top European players to Saudi Arabia, Napoli claimed their first Serie A title since 1990 and Arsenal threatened to win the title before collapsing as Erling Haaland inspired Manchester City to the treble. 

The January transfer window officially opened this week, with Europe’s top clubs able to bring in talent who can push them on for the second half of the season to reach their goals. Some major deals have been completed across the last few January windows, including Chelsea splashing a combined €191 million for Enzo Fernández and Mykhaylo Mudryk last year, and perhaps the most iconic Premier League January signing of recent years in Liverpool’s acquisition of now club captain Virgil van Dijk from Southampton in 2018 for €84.65 million, with the Dutchman going on to lift the Champions League and Premier League with the club within just two years at Anfield. 

Tottenham Hotspur’s problems at centre-back are well documented this season and Ange Postecoglou is determined to strengthen his options during the January transfer market. Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are top quality options but Tottenham’s depth beyond their first-choice duo is woeful and it’s been badly exposed when both players have been absent through injury. 

The January transfer window is beginning to take shape, and despite being the top perfomer for Chelsea this season when it comes to assists, chances created, tackles and interceptions, Conor Gallagher, who has been Chelsea's captain on eleven occasions in the Premier League this term, could be leaving the club this month. The 23-year-old English midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge last summer, and rumours of an exit are emerging again this winter.

The loan deal that will send Timo Werner from RB Leipzig to Tottenham is now official. The 27-year-old will leave the Bundesliga side on loan but could remain in London long-term as Spurs secured an option to make the transfer permanent. According to a report by The Athletic, Leipzig could receive between €15m and €20m. Sky Germany, in the meantime, reported that the option would cost the Premier League club around €17m to €18m. 

Tottenham Hotspur completed their tenth major signing of the season on Wednesday, when the Premier League club announced the signing of central defender Radu Drăgușin from Genoa. The 21-year-old talent makes the move to North London for a reported initial fee of €25 million, with potential add ons that could take the final figure to €31m. If those terms are met, Drăgușin will become Tottenham’s 11th most expensive signing ever. As part of the deal, Djed Spence will go on loan to the Serie A club for the remainder of the season. The Romania international has signed a contract with Tottenham which will run until 2030 and he will wear the number six shirt.

The January transfer window often has a habit of throwing up some unexpected transfers, but even the most ardent football fan would have raised at least one eyebrow when Tottenham defender Eric Dier was spotted in Germany on Thursday morning, ahead of his move to Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old England international has over 270 Premier League games to his name, but with his contract at the club set to expire at the end of the season, offers for Dier were few and far between. And yet, he has now signed a deal that will keep him at the club until the summer of 2024 with a club option for one additional year. So why are Bayern picking up the defender in what seems like an entirely unexpected move?

The January transfer window has been open for almost two weeks but English Premier League clubs have been relatively quiet.
